WHEN THE MAP REVEALS WHOM THE CITY PROTECTS ___St. Worships & Gospel Demos with Berkeley/Oakland Neighbors, Thursday, August 4, 2026

A society reveals its deepest values not only by where it invests, but also by whom it consistently protects. When safety, housing, education, healthcare, environmental quality, transportation, and public opportunity are distributed unevenly across neighborhoods, geography becomes more than a map—it becomes a moral testimony. The calling of a just city is not to reserve security and prosperity for a privileged few, but to ensure that every community shares in the protections necessary for human dignity to flourish. The highest measure of urban justice is therefore not the strength of its most prosperous neighborhoods, but the faithfulness with which it safeguards the well-being, hope, and belonging of every neighbor, especially those most vulnerable to neglect.
