Tuesday (08/25/2026): St. Worships & Gospel Demos with Berkeley/Oakland Neighbors ___THE STREET WHERE THE WORD BECOMES VISIBLE: On the Gospel, the Neighbor, and the Incarnation of Mercy
The Gospel begins with the Word, but it does not end with words.
It can be read from a Bible, proclaimed from a pulpit, examined in a seminary, defended through theology, sung in worship, and carried across generations through doctrine and tradition. All of these have their place. Christianity could not faithfully transmit its witness without teaching, study, preaching, and remembrance.
Yet Jesus continually directs the Word toward something beyond explanation. He directs it toward a human being.
The hungry person.
The stranger.
The sick.
The rejected.
The condemned.
The child.
The widow.
The wounded traveler.
Again and again, the Gospel moves from truth spoken to mercy embodied. The Word enters a human encounter and asks whether what has been believed will become visible.
This is why the street occupies such an important place in understanding the Gospel.
The street is where abstraction encounters a face.
It is where doctrine meets hunger.
It is where theology encounters suffering.
It is where conscience encounters inconvenience.
It is where the believer must decide whether love will remain a beautiful idea or become an action.
The street is where the Word becomes visible.
