THE FUTURE WILL BE EXAMINED BY THE NEIGHBOR (2)
AI, Human Progress, and the Final Test of Proximity

Humanity has always dreamed about the future.

We have imagined stronger cities, faster transportation, longer lives, greater prosperity, deeper knowledge, and technologies capable of overcoming limitations that once appeared permanent.

Now artificial intelligence has enlarged that imagination.

We speak of machines that can reason across enormous bodies of information, accelerate scientific discovery, translate languages, assist physicians, transform education, increase productivity, and place capabilities once reserved for specialists into the hands of ordinary people.

These possibilities deserve serious hope.
But every vision of the future eventually faces an examination.
And the examiner may not be the engineer.

It may not be the economist.
It may not be the corporation, the government, the university, or even the machine.

The examiner may be the person sitting beside the road.
The future will be examined by the neighbor.
