Thursday (09/24/2026): Gospel Demos & St. Worships with Silicon Valley Neighbors in San Jose ___CAN CIVILIZATION BECOME GREATER WITHOUT MAKING THE HUMAN BEING SMALLER? The Measure of the Neighbor on Progress, Power, Artificial Intelligence

Every civilization dreams of becoming greater.

It builds higher structures, faster transportation, larger markets, more powerful institutions, more sophisticated weapons, more productive economies, and more capable technologies. Human history can almost be read as an expanding record of what we have learned to do.

The pyramid demonstrated that thousands of human beings could be organized toward an extraordinary architectural purpose. The factory multiplied production. Electricity extended the working power of civilization. Computers multiplied calculation. The internet compressed distance. Artificial intelligence now promises to multiply intellectual capability itself.

Yet there is another history running beneath this history of achievement.

It is the history of the people who carried the stones, worked the machines, cleaned the buildings, harvested the food, maintained the infrastructure, raised the children, migrated for employment, endured displacement, and lived beneath systems whose greatness was often measured without measuring what that greatness cost them.

This brings us to a question that may become even more important in the age of artificial intelligence:

Can civilization become greater
without making the human being smaller?
The question is not whether civilization should stop advancing.

It is whether we can finally learn to advance
without diminishing the neighbor.
